Oldest Military Recruiter Makes A Difference

Richard Sher, CBS Local
November 27, 2007
He is the oldest military recruiter anywhere--78- year-old Raymond
Moran, Sgt. Major U.S. Army retired. His nickname, "Old Soldier," was
given to him by his commanding officer in Vietnam.

His office walls in Fort Meade are lined with some of his hundreds of
recruits.

Old Soldier tells Richard Sher, "I have been recruiting since the
early 1950s. I call my recruits my own brigade."

Sgt. Major Moran and his wife of 55 years, Barbara Ann, have two sons
and a daughter. They also have six grandchildren, one of whom, PFC
Christopher Moran Peer, is in Iraq right now.

Old Soldier retired from active duty in 1978. He had enlisted in
1948. Now he's a dept. of the Army civilian.

Right now, the Army is asking veterans and retirees to volunteer to
help tutor recruits so they can pass their Army entrance examinations.

You can contact Old Soldier, Raymond Moran, at 301-677-1994.

This archive consists of a topically organized selection of articles culled by members of the Counter-Recruitment List Serve from printed publications and web sites. The archive is not complete.
