Protestors target military recruiters in Chicago
ABC Local
September 17, 2007
Some protestors with first-hand war experience
have targeted military recruitment centers in Chicago to keep them
from enlisting applicants.
The group 'Iraq Veterans Against War' kicked off its "Befriend a
Recruiter" campaign this morning at Division and Clybourn.
Members claim recruiters lie to applicants to bolster their ranks.
They urged people who have no interest in enlisting to make
appointments at recruiting centers.
The protestors are trying to occupy the recruiters' time to keep them
from seeing people who are interested in signing up for service.
"We asking people to go befriend recruiters, spend time with them -
find out the real issues," said Iraq war veteran and protestor Aaron
Hughes. "Find out all the things that they're telling you, that
they're offering you, and then talk to a veteran and realize how much
of that's not true."
We were unable to reach anyone at the military recruitment center at
Division and Clybourn for a comment.
