Group Protests Military Ads At School Board Meeting
Channel 3000 Local
February 5, 2008
MADISON, Wis. -- A local group against military advertising in
Madison public schools protested before the school board meeting on Monday.
The group called TAME, Truth and Alternatives to Military Education,
continues to push the Madison Metropolitan School District's Board of
Education to rescind a decision to allow military advertising in schools.
The group said the U.S. Army recruiting ads on school scoreboards
takes advantage of vulnerable teens, WISC-TV reported
"It gives the appearance that the school promotes military as a
career," said TAME member Vicki Berenson. "Killing and dying is not a career."
Berenson said the group's goal is to pressure the board and to get
more of the public involved. TAME members said they've received very
little feedback from board members.
